Grandma and Grandpa Wang’s Locket
Fine silver, Britannia silver, sterling silver, 14K white gold, enamel, and mixed media

This locket was made in memory of my paternal grandparents, Lo and Elizabeth. The form was inspired by the safety and good luck charms they often gave me as a child. Inside the doll’s locket compartments are their photographs, and miniature white gold rings. These rings represent the wedding rings my grandmother had to wear on a string under her arm, to keep them safe while the family fled from mainland China to Taiwan after the Communist Revolution. This story also dictates how the locket is worn, long and across the chest, under the arm.
