Grandma Elsie’s Locket

This locket was made in memory of my maternal grandmother, Elsie. Her favorite color was yellow, and she loved butterflies and hummingbirds. She had several bird feeders in her window, and one of my most vivid memories of our visits to her house is watching the birds and butterflies that came to visit her too. The locket’s form was inspired by those bird feeders and small visitors. Inside the locket is a vial of yellow flower petals, and her signature from a card she gave me years ago. Inside the caps that hold the locket shut are photographs of both Elsie and my grandfather, Leonard.
